Dance Classes and Levels

Embark on a journey through our dance and theater programs at Northern Nevada Ballet Academy. From beginners taking their first plié to elite dancers mastering intricate movements, explore our diverse range of classes designed to nurture technique, artistry, and passion for dance and theater at every stage of your dance education.

When can I enroll at NNBA? NNBA has an open enrollment policy, so you can enroll at any time. However, it's recommended to enroll as early as possible if your child is interested in participating in the recital.

NNBA welcomes dancers age of 4 and up. 

BALLET:  

At Northern Nevada Ballet Academy, our Ballet program emphasizes classical technique and artistry, fostering discipline and grace in every performance.

CONTEMPORARY:  

Our Contemporary dance classes blend innovative movement with expressive storytelling, encouraging students to explore their unique artistic voices.

 

BROADWAY JAZZ:  

Dive into the high-energy world of Broadway Jazz, where our classes capture the vibrant flair and dynamic choreography of musical theater.

LYRICAL:

The movements are expressive and fluid, emphasizing the connection between the dancer and the music. Lyrical focuses on conveying deep emotions, storytelling, and expressing the lyrics of the song through dance.

CONTEMPORARY HIP-HOP:

Contemporary Hip-Hop blends elements of modern dance and hip-hop. It incorporates fluid movements, intricate footwork, and sharp, powerful gestures, emphasizing expression, rhythm, and emotional connection to music.

RnB / FUNK:

Explore the rhythm and groove of RnB and Funk, where students master the lively, soulful movements that define these energetic genres.

TAP:

Tap dance classes at our academy emphasize rhythm, timing, and intricate footwork, allowing students to create captivating, percussive performances.

CHARACTER:  

The Character dance program introduces students to traditional dance styles from various cultures, enriching their performance versatility and understanding of global dance forms.

REPERTOIRE:

Repertoire focuses on learning and performing pieces from classical and contemporary ballet works. Ideal for dancers looking to deepen their performance skills and experience.

 

PILATES / PBT:

Our Pilates sessions enhance strength, flexibility, and body awareness, providing essential support for all dance disciplines and overall physical well-being.

 

STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING (FLOOR BARRE):

Our Strength and Conditioning is a focused workout designed to build the muscle strength, flexibility, and control necessary for ballet, without the use of a barre or standing exercises.

Ballet Levels Description 

Introduction to Ballet - Ballet Only

For ages 4 and up

Frequency: Recommend 1 class/week (1 hour/week)

A pre-graded level for the youngest children to introduce the beginning concepts of ballet and gradually prepare them for the more formal environment.

Level 1 - Ballet Only

For ages 5 and up

Frequency: Recommend 2 classes/week (2 hours/week)

Beginner Ballet:  Perfect for aspiring dancers taking their first steps into the world of ballet. This level focuses on building a strong foundation in technique, posture, and basic movements, fostering a love for dance in a supportive environment.

Level 2 - Ballet, Tap, Broadway Jazz

For ages 7 and up

Frequency: Recommend 2 classes/week (2 hours/week)

Elementary Ballet: Designed for students with some prior experience in ballet. In this level, dancers refine their technique, coordination, and musicality while expanding their repertoire of movements and developing greater strength and flexibility.

Level 3 - Ballet, Pre Pointe, Repertoire, Contemporary, Broadway Jazz, RnB Funk, Tap, Pilates / PBT, Strength and Conditioning

For ages 8 and up, with approval from the Artistic Director

Frequency: Recommend 3-5 classes/week (4 hours/week)

For dancers with a solid foundation in ballet technique. This level emphasizes further refinement of skills, increased complexity in movements, and the introduction of more challenging combinations, dance styles and variations, preparing students for more advanced levels.

Level 3 Advanced - Ballet, Pre Pointe, Repertoire, Contemporary, Broadway Jazz, Contemporary Hip-Hop, RnB Funk, Tap, Pilates / PBT, Strength and Conditioning, Theatre

For ages 10 and up, with approval from the Artistic Director

Frequency: Recommend 4-6 classes/week (5-6 hours/week)

For dancers with a solid foundation in ballet technique. This level emphasizes further refinement of skills, increased complexity in movements, and the introduction of more challenging combinations, dance styles and variations, preparing students for more advanced levels.

Level 4 - Ballet, Pre Pointe, Pointe, Repertoire, Ballroom, Variations/Character, Contemporary, Lyrical, Broadway Jazz, Contemporary Hip-Hop, RnB Funk, Tap, Pilates / PBT, Strength and Conditioning, Theater

For ages 12 and up, with approval from the Artistic Director

Frequency: Recommend 6-7 classes/week (7-8 hours/week)

Geared towards experienced dancers with a strong technical proficiency. In this level, dancers focus on mastering intricate movements, perfecting artistry, and honing performance skills through rigorous training and exploration of diverse dance styles.

Level 5 - Ballet, Pointe, Repertoire, Ballroom, Variations/Character, Contemporary, Lyrical, Broadway Jazz, Contemporary Hip-Hop, RnB Funk, Tap, Pilates / PBT, Strength and Conditioning, Theater

For ages 14 and up, with approval from the Artistic Director

Frequency: Recommend 7+ classes/week (8-10 hours/week)

Tailored for dedicated dancers aspiring towards a professional career in performing arts. This intensive level offers advanced training in technique, repertoire, pointe work (for female dancers), RnB Funk, contemporary/modern, tap, partnering, and performance preparation, under the guidance of seasoned instructors.

 

*Minimum Age by September 1. Ages are approximate and class placement is at the instructor's discretion. All Level 3, Level 3 Advanced, Level 4-5 and Advanced Contemporary, Lyrical, Broadway Jazz and RnB Funk enrollments must be approved by artistic director.
